Transmitting forces to the ground
Bridge weight and traffic loads as well as braking and wind forces generate a number of different forces that must be transmitted to the ground through bridge piers and abutments. This is the task of bridge bearings, designed, manufactured and installed to permit movements and rotational effects caused by traffic, temperature variations, prestress, shrinkage and creep. Bridge bearings are therefore critical components of a bridge structure and demand high quality standards.
Fixed bearings transmit vertical forces and horizontal forces from all directions.
Unidirectional bearings transmit vertical forces, allow movements only in one horizontal direction and transmit horizontal forces at right angles thereto.
Multi-directional bearings transmit vertical forces and allow movements in all horizontal directions.
We supply various types of bridge bearings for many different applications world wide.
